Earlier today we announced new content that needs a client update to view.
Earlier today we announced new content that needs a client update to view. Amazingly, within 2 hours OSI published a new update that broke a number of the packets that the client needs to display world items correctly.

You need Client version 7.0.32.11 to view the new art, and 7.0.33.1 breaks the packets. So, there are two simple solutions for right now - either dont update your main play client and copy the art from a fully updated client (UOP, MUL, etc.), or save the EXE files from your current install, then update, and replace the EXEs with the old ones after the update is completed.

Just remember, if you do the above steps, you may not be able to update that installed copy in the future unless you restore it.

If you cant get it sorted, send me (Xavier) a private message or an email and we will make sure you have the right files to play.

It pretty obvious that my lack of discussion has left people to wonder and make up their own stories, so here it is.
This all started back when we were all at odds with each over certain things things that were going on in the beginning of 2013. Internal relations never recovered from that, and it became obvious that it never will. Back in January and February, most of Demise staff had decided to leave. So, a new shard was setup, involving me, Athena, Eos, Selene and Larson. Then, slowly I think we all decided to un-decide to leave, and we all stuck around, and the shard never really got finished.

That shard was this shard, Wakened. It was here before Athena and myself decided to leave, by about 9 months. In those 9 months, things just continued to get worse. The domain name we ultimately used for it, wakened.net, was registered way back in May, and the first one I was considering to use was registered in April. So yeah, we didn't leave just to start another shard, we already had another shard.

The housing inactive time was changed for exactly what I said it was for, to turn over a stagnant shard by displacing camped housing areas owned by people who hadn't been an active part of the community for years. I want to point this out too, people didn't just up and get 1 week to login and save their houses - it was discussed on the forums, publicly for weeks before the change was even made.

Word has gotten back to us, that regardless what anyone wants to make of it, the inactive time change had exactly the effect I was after: more activity, more active player base, etc., and two staffers and a couple payers said they see improvement from it.

So to the end of this recount, we left on a spur of the moment. More drama was firing up, I have had all I can take of it, and it took me 15 minutes to make myself decide to leave. People should stop being so paranoid, thinking someone is always trying to do them harm, and understand this: if I was going to wreck up anything, it sure as hell wouldn't be demise.

What truly amazes me is how people are blaming me for houses they think are being taken by staff, and other bizarre things, after we left. After. Im not there, Athena is not there. *If* anyone is actually doing this sort of stuff, its because we were not the ones doing it. Did you expect all Demise problems to cure themselves when we left? Things are only getting worse? Imagine that.

BTW, if you want a funny story, ask Eos why you should never play poker on hybrid!

HELP! Vile creatures of the old lands have invaded Zento, looted and pillaged the town, and kidnapped town officials! The beasts are hold up in Zento bank, with their pilfered loot, and holding Ihara Soko the Imperial Minister of Trade hostage. The Emperor is calling to all citizens to help put an end to their pillaging and restore peace to Tokuno.

We have added to the halloween trick or treat system. Now beggars with 100 skill can trick or treat animals and monsters. Almost all creatures can give a statue of itself to the trick or treater. The higher the creature's fame is, the better your chance of getting a statue from it, for obvious reasons. If you unsuccessfully trick or treat the creature, it will become angered and immediately attack you. So here are some specifics. - You cannot trick or treat in any house, or on a creature in a house. - GM beggars only. - can not be used on any summoned or controlled creature - each creature can only give one statue, then must be killed to get more - You can not trick or treat a creature while you are hidden or under a transformation of any type - You must be within 3 tiles of the creature - Nothing with human or elf bodies can be trick or treated, including vendors. - the chance of success is 1% at the lowest, 10% at the highest. This chance is based on the fame of the creature. These statues are NOT monster statuettes, and do not play any sounds. For the vast majority of creatures, at least, the art is not even the same. Some creatures have a chance of giving you a less common form of their statue. An example of that is in this picture:

The blue and red dragons are Shadow Wyrm, and an Acient Wyrm, respectively. They have a 25% chance of giving you one of these statues, otherwise it will be the regular dragon body. Please note that this is a very small sample of the total possible statues. There would be somewhere between 750 and 1250, not counting possible name variations.

As promised, here is part one of the additional holiday content. Halloween 2013 events on OSI introduce new event items and mobiles have been introduced. Here on Wakened, we have created a fair representation of the OSI events, with some minor changes. NOTE: If you can not see the new items' artwork, you need to update your client to 7.0.33.x Carvable Pumpkins These tall pumpkins can be found on the corpses of "Killer Pumpkins" which can spawn when Halloween pumpkins are picked from pumpkin patches. These pumpkins can be carved using a "Jack-O-Lantern Carving Kit", which can be found on the corpses of "The Butcher", which will be stalking Trammel and Felucca cemeteries. When carved, they will become one of 9 carved pumpkins, each with a different design carved into them, and a "Carved By {playername}" property which will be seen on mouseover. The Jack-O-Lanterns are animated and can be turned off by double clicking it while in your pack. These are the pumpkins, including an un-carved tall pumpkin and the carving kits on the right:

And, "The Butcher" will spawn with various names from Ultima Online mythos, and "The Butcher" title.

Heads On A Spike Also introduced on OSI as part of 2013 Halloween, "Head On A Spike". Each version will have the name of mythical characters, using the same names as The Butcher, and these will be available as GM Beggars' Trick-or-Treat items:

Additionally, 3 missing treats from 2008 (Candy Corn, Pixie Sticks, and Giant Pumpkin Muffins), have been added to the "everyone" trick or treat items, and the Twilight Lanterns have been re-enabled on the Killer Pumpkins' corpses as well, since they do not yet exist at all on The Wakened. The lanterns are hued and have the spell channeling property. We will be adding more pumpkin patch areas in-game to accommodate what might become an increased demand.

And finally for this update, we made a small change to how 2 "named" items become named. The masks from the Killer Pumpkins, and the jack-o-lanterns that spawn on the ground will now get their names from the names of randomly chosen player characters that are online and alive.

Previously Announced


First, Zombie Players. Each time a player dies, their zombie will appear in a random cemetery. The zombie will be named to indicate whos zombie it is: "Billy's Zombie Skeleton". Upon killing the player zombie, a bones container bearing the name of the person who died, will drop on its corpse, which you can take and use as a decorative container.

Farmer's fields in various locations will become pumpkin patches. Each pumpkin has a small chance of spawning as a Halloween pumpkin. Upon picking it up, either a Killer Pumpkin will spawn, or the Halloween Pumpkin will get a staff members name affixed, and become a decorative, light source Jack-O-Lantern. The jack-o-lantern can be turned on and off by clicking it. If the Killer Pumpkin is spawned, it has a chance of dropping one of various named masks. Each mask comes in both south and east facing versions, with the name of a staff member affixed as a "hand painted by" property, and the jack-o-lanterns come in 2 versions.

Also, there is the trick or treat. In order to trick or treat, you simple say "trick or treat" and target NPCs and/or vendors. If the NPC so chooses, he will give one of various treats. However, if he does not, he will play one of the following tricks on the player who asked for a trick or treat:
  • Summon your naughty twin who may:

    Send you to a random moongate
    ... or ...
    Steal your candy

  • Change your color

    Full body hue mod
    Wears off shortly

  • Cause you to bleed

    Harmless bleeding effect, no damage
    Wears off shortly


On the other hand, if the vendor is willing and feels giving, the trick or treater may receive one of the following treats:

  • Lollipops
  • Wrapped Candy
  • Jelly Beans
  • Taffy
  • Nougat Swirl



And, if the NPC is willing and feeling giving, and the trick or treater has 100 in the skill of begging, they may receive one of the following items:
  • Murky Milk

Aparrent confusion around the availability if artifacts ingame.
It has been brought to our attention that some people coming from a certain shard which has not yet implemented the Doom gauntlet points system seem to feel that some vast number of the doom artifacts have been handed out inappropriately to players, and have been so "thoughtfully" trying to "spread the word" about these artifacts and our shard. This rubbish couldn't be further from the truth. If you look around, you will see that everyone who has been playing has artifacts. Anyone who does play, and goes to the gauntlet for artifacts will have the same opportunity for the same items as everyone else. What you are seeing is the result of the gauntlet points system. Players should be getting drops, on average, every 5 to 15 rounds. We will be tweaking the distribution, but the overall availability will remain the same, as this is how it works on OSI. If you would like to see a list of items that were distributed as part of the welcome gift packages that were given to anyone who created an account and logged in a character before Oct 1 2013, that information is here: the Awakening welcome giftboxes Looking forward, yes, this system pretty much laid waste to the value of doom artifacts, but there are many other places to get new items that are much harder to get, and will surely be much more valuable in the end. Not everything useful needs to be that hard to get. Simply put: massive wealth from the Gauntlet is a thing of the past, so look to the future, because it is here.

We have extended the Awakening wlecome event through the remainder of September
Due to confusion regarding the planned end of this event, we have decided to extend it through the end of Sept. An original announcement had the month wrong. By extending it through September 30, it will not be a surprise ending to those who thought it was to end in October, while also not running it for an absurd duration.

Thanks to all who have joined our shard, and we hope we can make it a enjoyable gaming experience for all.

Minor issues causing lag

As you may be aware, we restarted for some updates yesterday. After the shard came back online, players were experiencing lag issues. We took the obvious first step and just disabled the MyUO, assuming that it was the cause. It turned out to be a coincidence: at pretty much the same time as our restart, the network was affected by some minor issues in the area. The data center resolved their issues in the following hours and we will be reactivating the MyUO functionality. We have a lot of updates and additions going in over the next couple days, and we will reactivate it during one of these restarts.
Sorry for the inconvenience.

UPDATE!

Due to some confusion regarding a 1 month discrepancy of the planned end of the welcome event, we are extending it through the end of September.
As a thanks for opening an account on The Wakened, we are giving a gift package to everyone who logs on between now and the 30th of September. The gift package contains a pair of commemorative gold goblets, special event wine, a raffle ticket that gives you a chance at winning a castle or keep in Malas, where castles and keeps can not be constructed, and a gift deed with 8 options, one of which can be chosen.

The gift deed has the following options to pick from
  • 500 of each necro and mage reagents
  • 1000 each of bolts of cloth, iron ingots, boards, arrows, bolts, blank scrolls, leather
