Details of the Winter Event Spawn
Regrettably, we were unable to keep the site updated with information on this event. Our webserver lost a hard drive right in the most inopportune time. Level 4 is almost complete, and Level 5 will be active by 11pm eastern time tonight.

The Winter Invasion Event

This system was designed with the intention of making it more available to more players than the typical "spawn" systems, or improv invasions tend to be. To make that happen, we have a kills requirement for each level, as well as a time requirement, and a list of all players who have participated over all.

As this is the first run of a rather complicated event system, and no real thorough testing time, there may be issues here or there. So far, so good - one problem found and corrected. We really do not expect anymore problematic issues, but are constantly monitoring it. We also may have to change or tweak something here or there, and will announce a few aspects at a later time.

Also, in this event, each mobile gives each person credited with killing it, their own independent chance of getting a reward. Meaning, more than one person can get an item from each creature.

The ridiculously low kills vs time requirement was deliberately done to make sure that even if there's a low interest, it will progress in a reasonable time frame.

Level 1 (completed!)

Mobiles: basic holiday critters, bunnies and ferrets (buffed)

Time requirement: 36hrs
Kill requirement: 5000

1% chance of a drop. A further 10% chance of the drop being a random power scroll, and 90% chance of being one of the following:

White Cloth Dye Tub, Red Poinsettia, Red Plain Rug Deed, Small Fishing Net Deed


Level 2 (completed!)

Mobiles: basic holiday critters, Coal Elementals and a new mobile, Ice Ooze

Time requirement: 36hrs
Kill requirement: 3750

1% chance of a drop. A further 10% chance of the drop being a random power scroll, and 90% chance of being one of the following:

White Poinsettia, Snow Globe One, Potted Plant Deed, White Leather Dye Tub


Level 3 (completed!)

Mobiles (to be announced)

Time requirement: 36hrs
Kill requirement: 2500

2.5% chance of a drop. A further 10% chance of the drop being a random power scroll, and 90% chance of being one of the following:

Snow Globe Two, Rose Of Trinsic, Wrist Watch, Hanging Axes Deed


Level 4 (completed!)

Mobiles (to be announced)

Time requirement: 36hrs
Kill requirement: 1000

5% chance of a drop. A further 10% chance of the drop being a random power scroll, and 90% chance of being one of the following:

Snow Globe Three, Hearth Of The Home Fire, Dawns Music Box, Tapestry Of Sosaria


Level 5 (completed!)

At this point, a boss and 4 mini-bosses will spawn. There will be no further kill or time requirements, as there is no further to progress in this event.

Each of the 4 mini-bosses will give a 25% chance to all involved in slaying them, to receive a Earrings of Protection Box Set and the main boss will give 100% chance, to all who participated in this and the previous levels, to receive a heritage token.

Note that you are NOT required to participate in every level to get the Boss drop, but a reasonable contribution to the slaughter is required. If you have been at it long enough to even ask if you are eligible, you surely are. The heritage token reward will only be given 1 per account.

A vile fiend has killed Christmas, murdered Santa, and killed all the reindeer! Lord British has issued a statement indicating that the fiend was spotted attempting to destroy the evidence, and is preparing to order a manhunt. Check back for more details ..

We have added some custom content this week, this describes it.
We have added 2 new types in the holiday tree deed gump. They are the same holiday tree addons, except they have animation, and colors.

Lumberjacking

We have added a system to lumberjacking, which is very similar to the Ore Elementals in mining

When lumberjacking using a special axe that you can only get from Lichs' loot, it upgrades the resource vein, and you have a chance of pulling up a colored tree fellow. These tree fellows have the hue and name reflecting the resource type they are associated with, and they are hostile.

Being tree fellows are made of wood, they can burn. If you cause it to ignite you will not get the colored wood logs you were expecting. However, you make end up a deco item from the mess he makes in the process of burning up.

Also being a tree, they are subject to damage bonuses when someone hits it with an axe.

Critters

We have added pack leaders for mobiles that have pack instinct, with the exception of arachnid and fey. That needs to be decided at a later date. Currently, they are spawning in Fire dungeon, with the exception of the Ostard pack leader; He spawns with the other Ostards in T2A. We also added kirin, unicorn, and nightmares to the equine pack animals. However, in the case of the nightmare they are ONLY given pack bonuses when they are fighting with a pack leader.

Their taming difficulty is increased, as are their stats. The fire steed pack leader is a long-maned horse, of the same hue as the normal fire steed. They are the pack leader for all equine.

The Ostard is a frenzy with a dark gray hue, and the hell hounds and hell cats leaders are a darker red than the rest.

ALL of the pack leaders require 2 slots. If you have two pack leaders in your pack, none of them get any pack bonus at all. These leaders spawn in the same locations on both trammel and felucca facets.

Special

Evil Santas are added for the holiday. Everyone who has kill rights on the Santa when it dies gets their own 1.25% chance of a dye bottle being dropped to their pack. They are 1 charge and have a large amount of hues they can come in. These are currently active in ice Dungeon on fel and tram facets.

The rest of the updates are fairly self-explanatory and you can find those lists in the last 2 update notes.

We will get some screen shots and stuff posted shortly.

Also note, we will be adding quiver of infinity on a mobile not yet in game.

Inactivty Policy

Updates regarding account inactivity and housing decay policy.
We deliberately waited to make a formal policy regarding account inactivity and housing decay, to see how things would shape up regarding housing and basically unused accounts intended to hold housing.

So, here's what we have decided to do.

1. Accounts themselves will never go inactive. If we ever come to a point where old, unused account data needs to be purged, we will do so by saving it to a database, where it can be reloaded from by logging into the account.

2. As of right now, there is absolutely no reason to institute general housing decay at this time. The purpose of housing decay is to free up housing resources held by inactive players, so active players have fair access to housing.

3. "Preferential Housing" will go into condemnation after the owner is inactive for more than 45 days. If you have housing in an area deemed to be preferential, you will be able to request a freeze on your accounts for a negotiated period of time. We dont want anyone who wants to play to lose their plot or items, but we also do not want to let refresh-placers take from active players.

Anything to be considered or designated preferential will be determined by administration, and the complete list made public information. If you register your accounts, you will receive a warning by email 1 week before they go into condemnation. Yes, everything inside Luna walls will be on that list, as well as several other popular areas.

We also have some work to do, to provide the mechanisms to achieve this. It is not taking effect right now. This post was meant as early warning, but check back, because we will not be stalling or waiting on implementing anything, including this.

Wakened has moved.
Yesterday, we announced we were going to move to a much better server. Yesterday evening we installed, updated, secured, and configured the OS and software on the new server, and set up everything for a fast move today to minimize downtime.

We just moved in 46 seconds. The server compiled, verified, and loaded the entire world in 11 seconds. Most of the time was wasted telling people we are moving now.

You may need to use login2.wakened.net if you can not connect with login.wakened.net, until the DNS change propagates.

We have also corrected some core networking code, and with a little luck, it will behave much better for everyone.

We love feedback, let us know what you think.

We have a recent backup of the shard running temporarily on the new server for testing/troubleshooting. The world on the new server will be replaced with the data from the current server when we finalize the move. But for the time being, you are welcome to have a look at login2.wakened.net

New Hardware

We are moving.
We have ordered service, which should be provisioned within a few hours from now with more stable connectivity, incomparably more powerful hardware, and much lower network latency for over 90% of the player base.

We will be in a location fairly central to most of North America, with tested ping times of 50ms to LA, and 80 to the east coast.

The system is an 8 Core Opteron, 16GB DDR3, 2x2TB SATA3 drives with raid mirroring to reduce the chances of drive failures causing any data loss to practically impossible. Of course we will continue to maintain our redundant backups to both servers and private locations, to prevent non-hardware-failure causes of data loss.

Hope everyone enjoys the new location, and we are excited to get to work migrating to it.

Important Notes on Faction Artifacts

The faction artifacts are not OSI accurate in a few ways which you need to be aware of.
Virtue artifacts are available in faction strongholds.

Some important notes about them ..

1. They have different cost and rank, and they can not be used by anyone not in a faction, or not of rank required to use.
2. They can not be transferred. They are bound to the character that claimed them as a reward.
3. They do NOT have the 30 day lifetime right now, but may in the future.
4. They can not be fortified with power of fort.
5. they can only be repaired by a faction crafter.
6. they are intended to be used only in Felucca. Use anywhere else will cause their destruction fast. The max hp drop with the current hp in any other facet.

These items are subject to change, we know its not 100% OSI accurate, which we did intentionally. Please contact us if you have any questions or concerns.

Zento has been robbed and pilliaged
HELP! Vile creatures of the old lands have invaded Zento, looted and pillaged the town, and kidnapped town officials!

The beasts are hold up in Zento bank, and holding Ihara Soko the Imperial Minister of Trade hostage. The Emperor is calling to all citizens to help put an end to their pillaging and restore peace to Tokuno.

This is now complete.

Updates including crash fix
We have restarted to apply an urgent fix for an issue involving new client support which has crashed the server 2 times.

Also the following non-urgent fixes will go in since we restarted anyway:

  • Make glasses repairable by Tinker.
  • Changed gnarled staff secondary ability to Force Of Nature.
  • Increased gold in treasure map chests.


Other updates:

We have purchased and are in the process of installing a 2048bit SSL site certificate. Some pages are 100% secure, some are not yet, and one or two may never be. Most importantly tho, is that everywhere you will be using a login, and on the donation store, site SSL security is and will be 100%.

This is a basic part of web commerce and communications security, and is there to provide you assurance that your transactions and communications will be secure.
